Re: Montgomery County Preservation Assistance Grant

Dear Mr. Searle,

I am writing to inform you that Montgomery County Texas has been awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities grant in the amount of $6,000 to assist in preserving the District Clerk's records prior to 1900 in order to prevent  further loss or injury to those documents.  This award  will be accepted at the Commissioners' Court today.

I wish to express my personal  gratitude for the eloquent letter you wrote in support of our grant request.  I truly feel that we might not have been successful without that letter.  Your ability to "speak historian" to the review committee was crucial to our securing the grant.

I further am of the opinion that your persuasive words led the National Endowment for the Humanities to give our grant the special designation as a "We the People" award.  I am attaching a copy of the award cover letter which describes this initiative.

Thank you for the time you took to craft an articulate letter and thank you for your support of the District Clerk's Office and their efforts to preserve these important documents.

Your humble servant,

Juanita Stanley

Dear Ms. Stanley

I am delighted to inform you that the National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded a grant of $6000.00 in support of your project.  Your application was considered carefully during the NEH review process, which includes peer review and specialist review along with deliberation by the National Council on the Humanities and the Office of the Chairman.

In addition, I am especially pleased to inform you that your project has been designated a National Endowment for the Humanities "We the People" project and is being supported in part by funds the agency has set aside for this special initiative.  The goal of the "We the People" initiative is to encourage and strengthen the teaching, study, and understanding of American history and culture through the support of projects that explore significant events and themes in our nation's history and culture and that advance knowledge of the principles that define America.  I anticipate that your project will contribute significantly to this effort.

I enclose the official notice of action from the NEH Office of Grant Management, which provides information on the grant period and the terms and conditions that apply to your project.  Please review this material carefully.  Address your questions either to the grants administrator or to the program officer whose names appear on the second page of the award notification.

Congratulations on your award.  I wish you every success.

Sincerely,

James A. Leach
